Squeezing of Light within the Framework of Population Theoretic Approach *

The object of this cont r ibut ion is to establish the viable na ture of the popula t ion theoretic app roach in modelling the propert ies of the ou tpu t radia t ion f rom amplifiers. In earlier cont r ibut ions [1, 2] we have shown that the popula t ion point process model of radiat ion in different contexts exhibits diverse properties of light such as bunching, leading to thermal behaviour, and ant i-bunching. Using a mult i -phase approach for the evolution of the popula t ion process, we have also shown [3] that the model of radia t ion corresponds to the ampl i tude mixture of coherent and chaotic light. In a more recent cont r ibut ion [4] we have fur ther demons t ra ted the possibility of accomodat ing squeezed coherent light at least to second order within the f ramework of popula t ion theory. In this contr ibut ion we establish the coherent na ture of the resulting radiat ions to all orders besides proving that a sub-popula t ion of the assembly of pho tons is number squeezed in the sense tha t its variance is sub-Poissonian. Besides we also establish tha t the mult i -phase approach is the most na tura l way of describing coarse-graining of the density matrix.
